Witches Broom Cookies {egg and nut free}

I don’t know about you but this week has been non stop chaos.

Just when you think you’ve got things figured out something changes and you are left in a daze wondering if you missed the memo.

Hi.  I’m the real world.  Remember me!?

Well, chaos or not, it has been a pretty good week.  Among other things I got to talk to two of my very best friends {and fellow bloggers}PheMom and Fuji Mama, I had stellar stats last week {thank you, StumbleUpon}, and we got Booed.

Generally I wouldn’t want to get booed but in this case it involved treats.  More specifically, Twix.  Oh yeah.  This I can handle.

It’s been a fun tradition in our neighborhood since the time we moved in 5 years ago.  Some one {I never know who} starts this chain of treat leaving, door bell ditching goblins.  There was only one year that I can remember not doing it.

Somehow it manages to surprise me every year and every year it seems to come at just the right time.  I’ve had this recipe sitting on my desk since the end of August.  Waiting for just the right moment to unleash the utter cuteness that are these cookies.

They are total Halloween awesomeness.

My first thought when making these {before completely looking at the recipe} was to whip up an old peanut butter cookie recipe and put these together.  I got to work on the cookie dough.  With the cookie dough done I glanced at the recipe just to coompare their recipe to mine because I was a bit worried the cookies wouldn’t be firm enough to stick to the pretzel sticks.

I was right.  The recipe calls for a shortbread.  Right!  Why didn’t I think of that?  Now I have Halloween cuteness AND peanut butter cookies.  Help me.

Even though using shortbread for these cookies is a perfect match I love that they are egg free and nut free!  It makes me worry less when I give them to a family in case the kids have allergies.

There is still time to whip these up and take on the roll of Boo Goblin yourself!  You can check out this site or just Google it.  There are dozens of sites and ideas!

  1. These are SO fun!

  2. Oh my gosh!! These are so stinkin’ cute!! I’m pinning these right now! 🙂

  3. So cute!

  4. so inventive – I love them! 🙂

  5. Too cute! And they sound delicious – I love chocolatey pretzels.

  6. I made these with my nieces and nephews the other night and they loved it! I made the dough ahead of time and rolled it into balls, so all the kids had to do was smash them on the pretzels and make the “bristle” marks with a fork. I’m with you though, when I first saw these on BettyCrocker.com I thought my peanut butter cookie dough would work, but it didn’t the first time around so I added peanut butter to the shortbread recipe and it was a nice hybrid.

  7. I just got booed for the first time this year. These are so cute – I wish I would have had it a little sooner!!

  8. I have LOVED our chats this week and absolutely love you too! I just wish I lived next door (for so many reasons!), honestly, one of those cute cookies would totally hit the spot right now!

  9. These are so great I love them, I will have to try these out with my kidos 🙂 thanks for the idea

  10. These are so cute! So far, we haven’t been booed yet. As my kids get older, they take more of an active role in being the ones to boo the younger neighborhood kids. It’s so much fun and homemade treats are always better, right?

  11. That is serious creativity! My kids would go nuts over these.

  12. So stinkin cute!! My kids would absolutely love these!!

  13. Oh! These are so cute!!!! Well, not just cute but they are looking delicious too 🙂 Lovely post
