Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes

I have beef.

Lots of beef.

Did you know my family and I raise our own beef?  And when I say “I” what I really mean is mr.  He does all the hard work and I cook it up.

We do everything from branding to castrating.  Usually the newbies get to do that job before they know any better.

These are pictures from a few years ago.  The first one is a grass stain…yes, that’s it, a grass stain, on mr.’s pants and my father-in-law geared for some off-roading in the truck.

We have at least two round-ups a year.  Our next big one is in the spring so watch for some pictures from that!

The round-ups are fun but the best part is having a freezer {as in a separate freezer in the garage dedicated to all things beef} full of grass-fed, home grown beef.

These sloppy joes are a family favorite and I love it because I can make a big batch to freeze some for later.

  1. I so bookmarked this one!! J is a HUGE meat eater, and this sounds so much better than the cans of Sloppy Joe “sauce” he would like me to buy. Def on our menu for this week!

  2. You will often see me eating vegetarian meals but I couldn’t give up beef. These sound perfect, my husband will love them!

Happy New Year! Love this recipe! I’m all about delicious slow cooker meals and this is perfect to whip up and have after a long day. Warm and delicious. Perfect for a cozy winter day! I haven’t made Sloppy Joes in a long time and now you got me craving these! 🙂

    • Hi Jennifer. Happy New Year! These are a favorite of mine especially when the kids are back in school and I’m struggling to get back into the swing of things. Tomorrow is the big back to school day and I’m not sure I’m ready!

  4. I adore sloppy joes, and this recipe sounds very similar to the one that I grew up eating. Yum!

  5. My wife just made a batch of sloppy joes to freeze too. But it certainly wasn’t from our own grass fed beef. That’s awesome!

I’ll bring my smoker out to your place, you provide the beef, I’ll smoke it up!

  6. There is nothing better than a good sloppy joe! These sound amazing!

  7. We were just talking about making sloppy joes, we’ve never made them before. AND, I’ve been wanting more crock pot recipes. We’ll be trying this one. So glad I found your blog.

  8. Yum these look so good and I love the ease of crock pot cookery! I am actually getting ready to start a Sunday Slow Cooker blog hop on my blog this Sunday and I would love if you would stop by and contribute. You have so many great ideas, your family are sure to never go hungry! 🙂

  9. We LOVE Sloppy Joes. It was the one meal I could count on in terms of pleasing my brood! Hope you have a happy, healthy new year!

  10. Really, you raise your own beef> Love that. Can you ship me some?? love the sloppy joes!

  11. There’s nothing like home grown, grass fed beef! Great idea to freeze some for later.

  12. That’s awesome you guys grow your own so to speak!! Love it! And sloppy joes are a favorite around here too.

  13. Hi Krista!

Just found your blog and glad I did! I’m going to use ground venison to make your sloppy joe recipe! Perfect for my husband and brother who will be visiting us tomorrow!

  14. I bet these taste great from the slow cooker!

Okay, I haven’t posted to you about this recipe yet but used at our Superbowl/brother’s 37th b-day party. I made sliders with some really good rolls from a local store and everyone loved it. We sprinkled cheese on top and enjoyed leftovers the next day. Thank you!

    • This is one my favorites too. I love the idea of sliders…and leftovers! I can’t remember if I mentioned this (I think I did) but this freezes really well too.

  16. So what if i only need to cook for 3 people?? i don’t need 20-25 servings…

    • I can certainly understand not need 20-25 servings! I have cut the recipe by 3/4 so that each measurement is just 1/4 of what it is now. That should work fine and it’s also good to know that with this recipe you can guesstimate without ruining it. I hope you like it Maria!
