BBQ Ideas to Please a Crowd

Warmer weather can only mean one thing in this house.

BBQ.  And ice cream.  You can’t have one without the other.

Okay, you can.  But you shouldn’t.

With school ending this week and Memorial Day just around the corner I decided it was the perfect time to celebrate.  It’s not very often I throw caution to the wind, invite a ton of people over to my house for a barbecue and just live it up.

I’m a planner.  And not in a good way.  I’m one of those annoying people that needs all her ducks in a row, polished, and looking spiffy before a party gets the green light.

As you can imagine parties involving kids are rarely, if ever, polished and looking spiffy.

I’ve discovered that by having a few things on hand for occasions just like this I’m WAY more relaxed, I actually enjoy the party {what a concept}, and everyone else enjoys it just as much because I’m not running around freaking out that the carved ice sculpture is melting all over the tropical fruit platter.

Just to clarify…a. I’ve never, in my life, thrown a party with an ice sculpture and b. If I did, it would not be melting all over a platter of fruit.  A vat full of diet coke…maybe.  I like a lot of ice in my drinks.

Number one on my list is ice.  For obvious reasons.

A close second is ice cream.  After all a party is not really a party without ice cream.

Nestle Drumstick came out recently with a brand new flavor.  Pretzel Dipped cones!  Chocolate, pretzels, ice cream.  Where have you been all my life and why didn’t I think of that!?

As much as I’m sure the kids would love them I saved those for the adults cuz I’m mean that way.  I did grab some Nestle lil’ drums for them though.  After all, I’m not completely cold hearted.

With dessert out the way the last few things I always have on hand are ingredients for summer salads.  One being my potato salad.  It. Is. Awesome.  As far as burgers and hot dogs go, we raise beef.  Hence I ALWAYS have beef in my huge, larger than my fridge, freezer.  Did you know that you can also freeze buns?  You can.  And you should.  Right next to the Nestle Drumsticks.

So the next time the neighbors suggest a last minute BBQ you can wow them with your attention to detail.  Be careful though, if you are too good they’ll want to come over every weekend.
