I’m a Blogger…and I’m Mormon

If you have been reading my blog for awhile then you may have noticed something missing.  A few things, actually.

One is fish.  It’s not that I don’t like fish it’s just not always in the budget.  Plus, I live miles away from the nearest coastline and this California girl has a serious mental hurdle with that fact.  When I go to the store to buy it I know it’s not fresh…and when I say fresh I mean caught that day.  Oh, Fishermen’s Warf, how I miss thee.

Second, and most importantly, you may have noticed I don’t have any alcohol in my recipes or in my drinks.  That’s because I don’t drink.  Or smoke.  Or drink coffee or tea for that matter.

I don’t drink or do those things because, and here it comes, I’m Mormon.

There.  I said it.  It’s not that it’s a difficult thing for me to say but on this platform, where I connect with all of you through food, I don’t find opportunities to talk about it.  Until today.  This won’t become a regular thing and tomorrow there will be another recipe followed a couple irresistible Fall baking ones {just wait!} but I want to share a project I’m involved in with you.

You may have heard a lot about Mormonism {or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints} in the news.  My dear friend and fellow blogger said it perfectly, “There’s a Mormon running for president!?”  Wha!?  I had no idea!  While I have absolutely NO intention of talking politics so don’t even go there, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has had a bit of publicity lately.

As a result of this new publicity, both good and bad, a group of us decided to share our side of the story.  The story is that we are just like you.  We try to live our lives the best we can, we are not perfect, and we have similar struggles as you.

“Along with the blogger packet, you will find our favorite scriptures, the ones that have personally touched our lives, along with a free Book of Mormon.  Why the Book of Mormon too?  Well, it would be impossible to really understand us without it.  It is a major part of our religion, our lives…and part of WHY we are Mormon.  The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ.  It is the ancient records of prophets who lived in the Americas before, during and after Christ’s time on earth.  Honestly, I think it’s the coolest book ever.  So, there you have it.  Between the blogger’s thoughts and the Book of Mormon, I think you’ll get a fairly good idea about where we’re coming from.” – Mariel

My beliefs are very sacred to me and it is difficult to put myself out there as I have done today but it is who I am.  I hope it gives you a better view of my life, which I write about so frequently with my recipes.

P.S. I have closed the comments on this post for the mere fact that, while I appreciate your support, I am not interested in sparking a debate nor subjecting anyone {including myself} to negative comments with regards to this topic.  Thank you for your respect.
