There aren’t too many smells that can completely envelope me and produce a calm to come over me. Fresh baked bread is one of those magical smells.
It bathes the house in homemade goodness that makes me wanna reach for a slab of butter, some homemade jam, and hunker down for a carb coma. I don’t always have time to whip up fresh rolls but I’ll probably be doing more often with this recipe for easy whole wheat rolls.
Last year I tried my hand at whole wheat rolls. It did not end well. In fact, I had about 2 dozen door stops. I thought I’d follow the “waste not, want not” motto and give them to neighbors to re-purpose them but that idea was vetoed. After that unbearable failure I held off on trying to create whole wheat rolls again until a couple months ago.
I realized I was making it too hard. I already had a dough recipe that I loved for these breakfast pockets. Everyone in my family loved it actually. And then I thought, why not use this dough to make rolls? Best decision I ever made. It takes under 2 hours to make which means that carb coma is closer than ever. Just remember to save some for dinner.
