Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Some days I wake up and I just know it’s gonna be a good day.  Yesterday was one of those days.

Until I got to the grocery a good 60 minutes later.  Within 30 seconds of entering the store my kids were already whining for something.  This is typical and I have come accustomed to their pleas so I can kinda drown them out.  So I press on trying the get everything on the list and a few things that weren’t on the list {like $20 worth of items not on the list}.

Earlier that morning I had told the kids that I would get them a doughnut at the store.  Call it a momentary lapse in good judgement that would lead to my undoing.  So we head over to the doughnut case and I let them pick out a treat after they reminded my about 500 times that I told them they could get one.  I handed them each their bag and remind them to wait to eat the doughnuts until we are out of the store.  Again, lapse in good judgment.  Thirty seconds later the bags are in the cart, I have two children screaming, one on the ground in a full on, drag out thrashing session.

Sigh.  Soon after we are checking out and quickly leaving the store with our heads hung in shame.  Okay, only my head was hanging and next time I’ll avoid the drama and give them these Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins instead.  I’ll probably need one too since keeping up with the kids at the grocery store requires some early morning chocolate.

  1. Hi Krista, I’ve been following for a short time now in this recipe you mentioned Flax seed I have read if not made into meal flax is of no use healthwise

    • Thank you for that piece of information William. I actually enjoyed the slight crunch it provided and I figure if it doesn’t hurt it can only be good! To get the full benefit from the flax I’ll be sure to grab some flax meal!

  2. These muffins look heavenly.

And like they’re sure to cure embarrassment and headaches 😛

  3. TArtanpancakes says:

These look so good. Am I right it thinking Truvia is like a sugar substitute/sweetener ? It’s not something I have seen before.

    • Thank you! Yes, Truvia is a baking substitute made from stevia. Stevia comes from a plant so I like using it more than artificial sweeteners. Their baking blend actually contains a little bit of sugar so be careful when serving it to people who need to watch their sugar intake.

  4. i love that you used dark chocolate. makes it more indulgent 🙂

  5. You are on the whole wheat train this week and I love it! I feel your pain over those tough supermarket trips. I promise that it will get better one day.

    • Thanks Dara! Ever since I started using Bob’s Red Mill Whole Wheat Flour I’m in love! I’m using it all the time! I know these days will pass all too quickly and I’ll miss having the kids little. Not sure I’ll miss the tantrum riddled shopping trips but I’ll miss them being kids!
